Creating a WordPress Website for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide

This 6 week class will cover the basics of building a website using WordPress, a popular content management system (CMS) that is easy to use and great for both businesses and hobbies. The class will be broken down into several topics to help you understand the process and guide you through the creation of your own website.

Class 1: Introduction to WordPress and web hosting
Overview of WordPress and its capabilities
Choosing a domain name and purchasing web hosting

Class 2: Installing and Setting up WordPress
Setting up a new WordPress site
Familiarizing yourself with the WordPress dashboard

Class 3: Designing Your Website
Selecting and customizing a theme
Creating pages and posts
Using widgets and plugins to add functionality

Class 4: Content Creation
Adding text, images, and videos to your site
Optimizing your content for search engines

Class 5: Customizing and Personalizing Your Site
Customizing your site's appearance and layout
Using tools and plugins to enhance functionality

Class 6: Launching and Promoting Your Website
Publishing your site and making it live
Promoting your site through social media and online advertising

Class 7: Managing and Updating Your Site
Managing your site's content and users
Keeping your site's software and security up to date.

By the end of this class, you'll have a fully functional WordPress website that you can use for your business or hobby. With a solid understanding of how WordPress works, you'll be able to update, manage and expand your website over time.

The flexible schedule (Flex Class) allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a flex class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. We will be going through each week as a group and I will post the lesson weekly (depending on which day you started).

Time frame for the Week:
Mondays - Teacher will post the information needed for the week.
Tuesdays-Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week.  The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the class.
Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom.  
Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students, students will also be able to engage in peer to peer review and be able to discuss how they went about completing the tasks.
Saturday - Sunday - Teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week.

No required experience or previous knowledge is needed by the learners.
