The full course is broken down into five (5) parts over the semester to provide flexibility to students; this class is part three (3) of the sequence. 

Join us live with this immersive curriculum, 中文,  that enables students to speak and read Chinese after learning just a few Chinese riddles. Daily assignments help students practice their listening, speaking and writing skills independently using the interactive homework App, and our weekly live sessions guide their learning and provide immediate feedback so they can advance systematically with this structured language learning curriculum. 

中文 teaches the key Mandarin Chinese characters commonly used in Chinese publications, and our students will learn seven (7) simple 2-4 line riddles to yield a vocabulary of 100+ new words in Book 1, Level 1. Daily practice includes reading, writing, listening, and reciting the short riddles along with the extensive reading exercises offered in each lesson. 

Course Scope and Sequence include:

Chinese etymology: Pictographs and ideograms in Chinese characters are studied closely in each lesson, so our students can learn the common radicals forms (the building blocks of many characters) and use these meaning clues (or "keys") to efficiently and effortlessly unlock the meaning of more Chinese characters by recognizing the "word within the word".

Mandarin Pronunciation: Essential Mandarin Chinese pronunciation is learned through daily listening and speaking assignments. Daily practice of reading aloud and frequent verbal practice in class with instruction enables our students to speak Mandarin fluently.

Communication skills: Students learn to communicate their ideas both verbally and in written forms with this rigorous curriculum. The solid vocabulary mastered will serve as valuable foundation to understand progressive reading materials such as Chinese fables and short stories in Book 2.

Grammar study: Students learn the usages of characters and important sentence structures central to effective communication in Chinese through the extensive reading exercises offered in each lesson. Verbal and written translations are practiced frequently both in class and in homework assignments.

Grading is optional and free of charge for this course, and students will be awarded certificate of  completion with taking the semester course, satisfying the prerequisite for Year 2 Mandarin Chinese for Young Learners.

Recorded sessions will be available for students with any scheduling conflicts.
