New to Outschool? Enjoy $20 off this class with promocode: CHRISCH20 (New users only) Welcome to the most advanced figure drawing class in my Outschool Curriculum! In this class, we will explore shading techniques to take your drawing skills to the next level. This class is specifically designed for students who have already mastered proportions and basic anatomy and are eager to enhance their drawing abilities from a technical level. Here's a breakdown of what we will cover in this course: 🔰 Classes 1 & 2 - Front and Back View: In the first two classes, we will focus on geometric forms. You will learn the "Chainlink Principle" to simplify anatomy and create believable insertion points for the bones and muscles. We will also explore the "Reilly Rhythms" technique to create flow lines that add grace and beauty to your drawings. Additionally, you will learn to break down things into primitive geometric forms, inspired by George Bridgeman and Art Center College of Design's "Constructive Anatomy" method. This will give you the confidence to shade the body and muscles with ease. 🔰 Class 3 - Side View: In class three, we will focus on gesture and creating active poses. You will learn the "Pinball Technique" used by Disney animators to create the illusion of movement. We will also delve into "Staggered Shading" and the four types of edges (crisp, firm, soft, and lost), and how to apply them to your drawings for added realism and visual texture. Lastly, we will be implementing the "I-C-S Method" - you will learn the three types of lines you will ever need to create confident and professional-looking drawings. 🔰 Classes 4 - Complex Poses and Clothing Application: In the last class, we will draw complex poses and add clothing to the references. You will learn how to draw difficult poses and unconventional positions (sitting, crouching, twisting, and foreshortening poses) using the "Parameter Line" technique. We will also explore tools such as negative shapes, angle lines, and plumb line techniques to double-check your work for inaccuracies. Additionally, we will teach you how to add clothing folds to the figure and create realistic folds using "hang-points" and "stretch lines." Lastly, we will learn to elevate our work by DESIGNING light and shadow, not just copying them. You will combine everything we've learned in this class to create drawings with good proportion, anatomy, muscle shading, movement, and clothing. 📝 Homework Assignments 📝 Students will receive specially crafted homework assignments. In this class, we will be working with photos of professional figure drawing models to enhance our understanding and portrayal of the human form. To ensure a diverse range of body types, I will carefully curate the selection of models used in the class. These models will be dressed in skin-tight clothing to showcase their anatomy and muscles.
