課堂經歷
Students will be exposed to many creative ways of thinking of and writing the following figurative language: simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, personification, hyperbole, and idioms. Each class will follow a schedule of teacher presentation, discussion, prewriting, sharing, peer and teacher feedback, editing, and sharing of final draft of sentences. It is the goal of each class to master the art of each type of figurative language. Week 1: What is the purpose of figurative language? Practice with simile, metaphor, and onomatopoeia. Week 2: Which types of writing would benefit from the use of alliteration and personification? Week 3: Employing hyperbole and idioms to intensify meaning and emphasize a point. Week 4: Demonstrating mastery by putting them all together. (Bonus: If there is time, we will discuss clichés!)
學習目標
First, students will learn how to identify the figurative language within creative excerpts provided in class. Then, students will use what they have learned to employ the figurative language in their own, original writing. They will produce unique examples to use in their own writing assignments. The goal is always to be a more confident writer!
