每週 1-2 小時. This class meets one time per week virtually. Students are given five journal prompts per week to complete outside of class. Journal prompts should take no more than 20 minutes. Students are also encouraged to read 15 minutes per day for a total of 75 minutes per week. When your student is enrolled in this class, they get my creative writing session classes for free.

Class Description:
This language arts course is designed for 5th graders to enhance their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The curriculum focuses on key language arts components and aims to foster effective communication and critical thinking. Throughout the course, students will engage in various activities, including reading comprehension exercises, grammar lessons, writing assignments, and discussions. The class meets once per week for 55 minutes. Students also have the option of joining Ms.Field's Creative Writing Sessions free of charge. 

Curriculum Overview:
Week 1: Introduction to Language Arts

Overview of language arts components and expectations
Importance of effective communication


Week 2: Reading Comprehension

Reading strategies and active reading techniques
Practice reading passages and answering comprehension questions


Week 3: Grammar and Sentence Structure

Parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and conjunctions
Sentence structure and types of sentences


Week 4: Vocabulary Development

Context clues and word meaning
Word roots, prefixes, and suffixes


Week 5: Writing Skills: Narrative

Elements of a narrative and story planning
Writing a short narrative story


Week 6: Writing Skills: Descriptive Writing

Sensory details and figurative language in descriptive writing
Using vivid language to describe objects and places


Week 7: Writing Skills: Persuasive Writing

Introduction to persuasive techniques: ethos, pathos, and logos
Writing persuasive letters and speeches


Week 8: Spelling and Vocabulary

Spelling rules and strategies
Building and expanding vocabulary


Week 9: Research Skills

Finding credible sources and note-taking
Conducting research on a chosen topic

Please note that this is a condensed overview, and each week will involve a variety of activities, discussions, and assignments to engage students and reinforce their language arts skills.

Writing Skills:

Using descriptive language, sensory details, and figurative language to create vivid and engaging written descriptions.
Composing persuasive pieces that effectively employ rhetorical techniques and logical arguments.
Applying grammar rules and sentence structure to construct grammatically correct and coherent sentences.
Enhancing spelling accuracy through knowledge of spelling patterns, rules, and strategies.

Hello there! My name is Abby, and I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful community. I have been involved in the field of education for many years, both as a teacher and in administrative roles.

As a teacher, I have primarily focused on teaching English and reading, but I also have experience teaching cooking and crafting classes. I have written curriculum for various subjects and taught in various educational settings, including public and private schools, community centers, and online platforms.

One of the values that is central to my teaching philosophy is the belief that learning should be a fun and engaging experience. I believe that students learn best when they are excited and motivated about the material they are studying. To achieve this, I try to create a positive and interactive learning environment in my classes that encourages student participation and collaboration.

While I don't teach full time at this point, I continue to be passionate about education and enjoy working behind the scenes to support students and educators alike. In my current administrative role, I am involved in developing and implementing programs that enhance the educational experience of students.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my furry companion, Magnolia. She is a loyal and loving dog who never leaves my side, and I can't imagine life without her. I am also recently engaged and excited to begin planning my future with my soon-to-be husband! 

I am honored to be a part of this community and look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with students and educators alike.
