In this fashion design class, students will learn to render (draw accurately) sheer fabrics like chiffon and tulle. We will draw sheer fabric over skin, over other layers of sheer fabrics, and over solid fabrics to learn how to show the difference in a fashion sketch. We will look at pictures and trends that include sheer fabrics and the different ways in which designers render these fabrics, as well as some examples that the teacher and students can bring to the class. I have been teaching fashion design for over 5 years and help students get into competitive fashion design colleges, like FIT.
Paper Fashion body (from fashion 101 or a printed figure) Colored pencils, markers. Pastels are great to use for drawing sheer fabric, but pencils or crayons can be used instead if you don't have them. Be sure to have at least one skin tone AND a white colored pencil as well. Have a q-tip for blending; if you don't have it you can use your finger but it will get messy! A thin black marker for outlining, such as an ultra fine sharpie If you own any sheer fabric (whether part of a garment or just as fabric) please bring it! It's great to have a model to look at.
