Math in Focus gives students time to master foundation topics needed for first grade . Singapore Math teaches concepts using concrete, pictorial to abstract which has many hands-on experiences. The goal is to develop deep understanding of math concepts through direct instruction and modeling. There is many guided practices with activities with teacher support.
     In this class, the students will receive explicit instruction and explore math concepts for the first grade curriculum.  The students will actively participate during class and verbalize their thinking process.  First grade students will be introduced to new concepts which include addition, subtraction, ordinal numbers and shapes.
     The students will listen to poems and act out fun projects to learn new math skills.  The students will explain math concepts through exploration and discussion. They will also learn important math vocabulary for each lesson.  
      I believe that all students can be successful in math.  I want to motivate the students with important math strategies and give them the confidence they need in math. I will use models, visual aids, and activities to help understand  new concepts.
