In this class we will be exploring Halloween during the Victorian Era and see its early transition into a modern holiday. We will be covering beliefs, party games, costumes, and talk about how we decorate a Victorian parlor for Halloween. Our information will focus primarily on England and the United States during the mid-to-late 1800s; during the reign of Queen Victoria. We will read contemporary accounts about Halloween party etiquette and decorating ideas. The class is taught in a lecture style with a Google slideshow. All period documents are printed on the screen for easy reading. No additional materials are needed by the students.
