In this Diary of a Pug class, learners will practice speaking skills, build and review vocabulary, and strengthen comprehension and reading strategies while being social, playing games, and solving word puzzles in English. Topics we will address: reading strategies prefixes, suffixes, and root words antonyms and synonyms plural, singular, proper, common, abstract, and concrete nouns vocabulary from the books elements of plot: characters, setting, conflict connecting the text to other text, to life, to self Example class schedule: Week of January 7 Topic: Characters Vocabulary: impress, snuggle, human, minion Activity: Kahoot about chapters one and two of Diary of a Pug Book 1 Week of January 14 Topic: Setting Activity: Comprehension questions/discussion based on the setting of Diary of a Pug books 1, 2, and 3 Activity: Memory game about prefixes, suffixes, and roots from Diary of a Pug Book 1 Week of January 21 Topic: Conflict Activity: Hidden Message word puzzle about the conflict in Diary of a Pug Book 2 Activity: Best and worst of Books 1, 2, and 3 discussion Week of January 28 Topic: Kinds of nouns Activity: Kahoot about proper, common, plural, and singular nouns in Diary of a Pug Book 2 Activity: Roleplay from Book 1 Week of February 4 Topic: Antonyms and synonyms Activity: Crossword puzzle about antonyms and synonyms in Book 1 Activity: Boggle game based on Book 2
