Each week the class will examine an epic sea battle that has changed the course of history! Each lesson is stand-alone, so students can join at any time with no prior experience and stay for as many sessions as they'd like. Through a combination of teacher-centered instruction and discussion, we will investigate the historical context, naval leadership, technology and the events of the battle itself. The class will run on a 12-week rotation covering the following epic sea battles: Week 1 Salamis (480 BCE) - Athens vs. Persia Actium (31 BCE) - Octavian vs. Antony & Cleopatra Week 2 The Red Cliffs (208) - Liu Bei vs. Cao Cao Svolder (999) - King Olaf of Norway vs. Everyone else Week 3 Sluys (1340) - England vs. France Lepanto (1571) - The Holy League vs. The Ottoman Empire Week 4 The Spanish Armada (1588) - England vs. Spain The Downs (1639) - Holland vs. Spain Week 5 Quiberon Bay (1759) - Britain vs France Battle of the Nile (1798) - Britain vs France Week 6 Trafalgar (1805) - Britain vs France & Spain Lake Erie (1813) - Britain vs USA Week 7 Hampton Roads (1862) - US Union vs Confederacy Lissa (1866) - Austria vs Italy Week 8 Tsushima (1905) - Russia vs Japan Falkland Islands (1914) - Britain vs Germany Week 9 Jutland (1916) - Britain vs Germany Battle of the Atlantic (1939-45) - Britain, USA & Canada vs Germany Week 10 Pearl Harbor (1941) -USA vs Japan Midway (1942) - USA vs Japan Week 11 Leyte Gulf (1944) - USA vs Japan Latakia (1973) - Israel vs Syria Week 12 Falklands War (1982) - Britain vs Argentina Operation Praying Mantis (1988) - USA vs Iran Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
