CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.A.1 Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram. - Learners will identify time on a clock to the nearest 5 minutes. - Learners will solve elapsed time problems by identifying the start and ends times on clocks and adding by 5s to calculate the time passed. - Learners will solve real-world elapsed time word problems using addition - Learners will practice elapsed time through the use of analog clocks and number line diagrams This class will be teacher-directed as the material is introduced. Class work will shift to student-centered as the lesson shifts to hand on practice problems. As the teacher, I will be there to support learners as they work through solving each problem. I will ask students to explain their thought process with each problem solved. My goal is for learners to be able to explain their thinking. This prompts learners to reflect on their process, use content specific vocabulary, engage in academic conversations, learn new strategies from others, and internalize the skill such that they could teach it to someone else. A knowledge of how to tell time is an important pre-requisite for this class. If you are looking for a course, you can sign your child up for my class, "Telling Time to 5 Minutes" before enrolling them in this class. Don't see a time that works for your learner? Please feel free to make a request!

Hello! My name is Eva Zotkin. I am a licensed elementary teacher providing interactive, math based escape rooms and 1:1 elementary math tutoring. I received my degree in elementary education, linguistics and ESL in 2015 and have been teaching in the classroom ever since! I am passionate about providing engaging learning opportunities that inspire students to reach their goals and explore new interests. When is comes to math, I believe there is no such thing as "one strategy fits all." Therefore I introduce students to multiple ways of approaching a problem so that they can decide what works best for them. Escape rooms are one of my favorite ways to engage my mind in something fun and I love getting to see the wheels turn in learners' minds as they work to solve puzzles. I believe that learning should always take place in a low stakes environment where every learner feels safe to make mistakes and learn from others. I have had many opportunities to make mistakes and grow from them as I have pursued my degrees and developed my skills in non-academic settings such as tennis, field hockey and violin. I cannot wait to meet your learner and help them grow! If you see a class and the time offered doesn't fit your schedule, please reach out and request a time! I will do my best to accommodate the request!
