Week One: Birds in My Backyard. We'll learn how to set up a bird feeder, identify birds, and draw a goldfinch. Week Two: Frogs and Toads, preventing water pollution, and making a trading card. Week Three: Turtles and habitat protection, making a turtle with repurposed materials. Week Four: Planting for pollinators and butterfly origami. Week Five: Dirt and Detritivores, composting, menus and maps. Week Six: Camouflage Insects and mantis model. Materials are mostly basic art supplies...
Students will become more familiar with species local to them and how to research and collect data. The art projects will help them remember details as we introduce each animal. The field trips will teach self-motivation, time-management, and safety. Students will feel empowered by simple steps they can take to protect the environment through habitat creation and protection, reducing waste, and collecting data for citizen science.
