龍與地下城 D&D 正在進行的課程：燭堡之謎

Candlekeep is the greatest collection of knowledge in the known world.  Historians, sages, and other seekers of knowledge travel from all parts of the realms to search through its vast collection of books.  However, many of the books in the library fortress of Candlekeep impart not only knowledge but adventure as well!  The Avowed of Candlekeep catalog and maintain the books in the vast library, but when a book contains a portal to another dimension, a trapped monster, or just an unsolved mystery who can they turn to?  Your heroes, of course!

This class will give learners of all experience levels the full D&D experience.  Your hero will undertake perilous adventures and face horrible monsters.  By overcoming these challenges, your character will gain in experience, skills, and renown until they are they most powerful adventurers in the land!

In game terms, we will create beginning heroes and adventure through the adventures found in the Candlekeep Mysteries book.  Learners will have the opportunity to advance their character to higher levels, making choices about their character's expertise along the way.

This class will be for those who want to create a character with a rich backstory.  Learners will have ample time to role-play their characters in social situations as well as in tactical combat. 

As the name suggests, each of the adventures contain an element of mystery.  These adventures will contain the “three pillars” of D&D: combat, exploration, and roleplaying/social interaction.  Though there will be combat, many of the adventures will require the careful search for clues and some thoughtful consideration of what they mean.  Heroes who attack first and ask questions later may not be as successful as those who look for multiple ways to overcome obstacles and solve the mystery.

Previous experience is NOT a requirement!  We welcome all learners regardless of experience or skill level.  Rules will be taught as needed.

Role playing games are excellent vehicles to work on academic skills like reading, math, and social studies.  They are also outstanding ways to practice team work, leadership, negotiation, creative problem solving, and imagination!

Our first class on or about December 4 will consist of character creation.  We will go beyond the numbers to create fully fleshed out personalities.  These personal details will inform the learner's decisions about how their character will react in different scenarios.  Please note:  we will be using the Player's Handbook to create characters.  The options presented there will be the ones available for player characters.

Beginning with the second class on or about December 11 the heroes will travel to Candlekeep with a caravan seeking entry.  The journey may have its own perils even before arrival at the library.

The third class on or about December 18 will give learners and chance to explore Candlekeep, encounter their first mystery, and give them the chance to search for a solution.

By the fourth class on or about January 8 the heroes have potentially solved the mystery.  As part of their reward, one of the Avowed approaches them with a very interesting offer!

Subsequent adventures will be dictated in part by the choices the learners make for their heroes.
