In this music performance-based class, learners will use the drum set to learn to perform and respond to music playing "The Basic Rock Beat". The repertoire builder series is meant to give performers a complete offering of standards for the specified instrument that they can "collect" over time. Upon course completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion that will include a repertoire builder outline where learners can track, or build a portfolio, of all the music lessons/works they have learned. Learners have the opportunity to add to their repertoire page over time by participating in other classes of the series. Ths series is offered uniquely offered by this teacher. Learners will: - participate in observation and listening activities - participate in performance activities on the drum set - respond to guidance and performance techniques and be expected to either self-identify or reach out to the teacher for guidance. * a compliment class to this is offered for 1-on-1 instruction on an as-needed basis - perform on the drum set using standard notation, - analyzing written music and identifying patterns - use critical thinking and self-awareness skills to identify how they improve their craft By the end of this class, learners will: - have an understanding of how the basic rock beat works - have a start to performing the associated patterns of each drum voice Opportunity for Assessment/Feedback/Teacher Response: There are 3 ways this can be offered, and it all starts with the learning performer. - reach out to me via email - send a video of your practice session so I can respond with a written or video response - schedule time in the compliment 1-on-1 class that best fits the time allotment for your questions and learning needs Scheduling for the 1-on-1 complement class can be found at this link: https://outschool.com/classes/1-on-1-complement-class-MAkXcg2x?utm_source=transactional&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=organizer-activity-published&refuid=IahcdJh0 Learning to drum has many benefits, such as concentration, handling multiple sources of information at the same time, decision-making skills, coordination and balance of the whole body, keen listening and attention, and building perseverance and resiliency. Learning to drum does not happen overnight and takes time, development, and deliberate practice of specific skills. This learning plan is in accordance with the National Standards for Music Education in General Music. PERFORM Demonstrate understanding of the structure and the elements of music (such as rhythm, pitch, and form) in music selected for performance. (MU:Pr4.2.4a ) When analyzing selected music, read and perform using iconic and standard notation. (MU:Pr4.2.4b ) Rehearse to refine technical accuracy and expressive qualities to address challenges and show improvement over time. (MU:Pr5.1.5b ) Identify and apply personally developed criteria (such as demonstrating correct interpretation of notation, technical skill of performer, originality, emotional impact, variety, and interest) to rehearse, refine, and determine when the music is ready to perform. (MU:Pr5.1.8a ) Describe how specific music concepts are used to support a specific purpose in music. (MU:Re7.2.2a )

The Breakdown
Walk through the foundation of the basic rock beat. Learn to play each voice of the drum set with a steady beat and transfer that to the rhythm of each voice. 2 modes are provided for every voice: a practice speed and a performance speed.

The Combinations
Use the foundation skills you developed during the "Breakdown" lesson to analyze the different voice combinations and discover how they work together. Use the 2 modes built into the video: practice speed and performance speed.
*Make a video of your performance and share it through the OutSchool video upload, and receive a written analysis from your teacher.

The Full Pattern
Put all of your skills together. Perform along with the practice speed. Repeat this section as many times as you need, or pause the video to focus on your own. Build your confidence and accuracy as you gradually speed up the tempo to match the performance speed.

課 4:
The Variations
A pattern has an ending cue, the fill. Learn 2 variations of the fill: 2-beat fill, 4 beat fill. These videos are longer and break down the fill to the rhythm foundations. You will need to use your ear as the fill is where individual creativity is applied. Your listening skills will be keen in this lesson.
