Drop Thought Kids is about creating hope and considering what could be possible. In this series of ongoing classes, each class will focus on how to create, plan and conduct an experiment. Students will be presented with a variety of objects during each week and we will consider what we could test using them. We'll then work together on how to conduct and correct and fair experiment and then test it out in hopes of finding a reliable conclusion. Week 1 (10, 11 or 12 November): Object:...
Students will improve their ability to form a testable question. They will be able to use their question to formulate a fair test and record their results. They will be able to look at their data and use their information in suggesting a conclusion and be able to analyse if their test was fair or not.
I have taught Science to 6- 11-year-olds for over 20 years and been trained by Evidence Based Enquiry in the Science of Learning. I have co-ordinated science and assisted others with the teaching of this curriculum area. Drop Thought Kids was run as extra-curricular activities for many years and students were responsible in suggesting their "I wonder..." question. I have a BSc in Science, Post-gradutate degree in teaching and an MA in Comparative Education.
Each week, different objects will be needed so be sure to look at the list for each week. To ensure a test is fair a ruler or stop watch is often beneficial.
