Let's draw a medieval castle together!

In this 40 minute lesson, young artists will be led through an easy to follow, step-by-step drawing of a medieval castle.  As we draw, learners will be introduced to the following art terms: vertical, horizontal, horizon line, texture, balance, symmetrical and asymmetrical.  We will also discuss the terms: foreground, middle ground, and background.

We will be using a ruler or straight edge throughout the lesson.  After outlining, we will add important details such as windows, flags, stones, trees, 3-D drawbridge, and a moat.  Learners are encouraged to add their own creative ideas to their drawings.  We will also discuss fun facts about castles from the Middle Ages.  Did you know that cats and dogs were kept in castles to help kill rats and keep them from eating the grain stores?  Interesting! Learners are encouraged to share their ideas with their peers.
