課堂經歷
Calling all actors! In this class, we will spend 45 minutes playing a variety of fun acting games. These games will tap into fundamental aspects of theatre such as creating characters, working with props, imagining ourselves in different environments, and collaborating with each other. I am a current elementary school teacher with years of experience teaching drama to children both in an academic context and in a community performing arts organization. I've even directed full-length productions starring a cast of children and youth! Directing and acting are two of my greatest passions and I can't wait to pass this on to a new generation of theatre stars. This class will be suitable for both experienced actors wanting to have some fun engaging in their passion, and new actors wanting to experience what theatre is all about. Look down below to see a more detailed class breakdown: - Introductions/ about me charades (introduce ourselves and play a charades game where we act out our favourite things) - What are you doing? game (game where we take suggestions to act out different activities using movement) - Scavenger hunt transformed object game (race around our homes to find objects that could be used for creative purposes, like using a paper plate for the steering wheel of a race car) - Transformed object skit creation (make up creative skits that use the objects we found during our scavenger hunt) - Add ons game (game where we have to make a picture by 'adding on' new elements to a scene, such as starting with a tree, and adding on an apple, then a squirrel, then a nut the squirrel is holding, etc.) - Talking picture game (game where we all pretend to be in a location and the 'detective' has to guess where we are) - party quirks game if time allows (game where learners enter as different characters and the 'party host' has to guess who they are) - wrap up (share our favourites and least favourites from the class, goodbyes)
學習目標
Students will learn new drama games to take into performing arts contexts, sharpen their skills when creating characters and world-building on stage, and increase their confidence in letting their full creativity shine while performing

Only space to move around, and plenty of imagination! There will be a game incorporated where learners will have to find props from around their house, but these will be common household objects and will not need to be prepared beforehand.

教師專業知識和證書
Hello OutSchool families! My name is Chelsey and I am an enthusiastic, and creative elementary school teacher, youth theatre director and summer camp leader. I hold a degree from the University of British Columbia in English and Theatre, and another degree in Elementary Education
with a focus in Indigenous Education from the same university.
Here on OutSchool, I teach performing arts related classes, classes that incorporate academic curriculum but in engaging and creative ways, and arts-based classes. My classes incorporate such things as visual arts, drama, STEM projects, games, experiments, and challenges. They are highly interactive and hands-on.
In all of my teaching experiences, my first priority is to focus on the social-emotional well-being of my students, making sure to build strong relationships and a sense of community where they can feel not only comfortable to be themselves but also highly valued, just as they are. I strongly believe that children and youth learn best through exploration, creativity, and opportunities to engage their curiosity. Most of all, learning should be fun and focus mostly on learner-centred experiences that are hands-on and open-ended, rather than a more teacher-centred approach. This helps develop a life-long love of learning that I believe is vital for all of us.
I have years of experience leading children in camps related to visual arts, performing arts, and nature - three things that are personal passions of mine. In addition, I have taught children's drama classes for years and even directed children and youth in four (and counting!) full length theatre productions. This is my seventh year teaching elementary school and I truly love it. I have taught all grades between Grade 3 and Grade 7. I also spent a year teaching in a mostly online environment due to Covid concerns and this helped me learn how to maintain my teaching values in an online environment. My favourite thing about being a teacher is getting to know the unique personalities of each of my students, and nurturing their strengths and abilities. I truly believe that all children have special gifts they are just waiting to share.
I can't wait to connect with you!
