Each week in this ongoing course, students will learn a different strategy to make division easier to understand. We will focus on one technique per week and learn everything there is to know about it! This includes learning how to solve a problem using this strategy and understanding how each method works. My goal is to help your child thoroughly understand the process of solving division problems, not just memorizing math facts. 

This course is designed for students who are confident in understanding primary division. This class will focus on division problems with 3-digit dividends, identifying remainders, and 2-digit divisors (i.e., 328 ÷ 12). 

Since this course is ongoing, your child can join in the fun at any time to learn one strategy in particular or to build their mathematical toolbox as a whole! Each strategy is independent of the next, so your child does not need to know one approach to learn another. 

Although our strategy will change each week, our routine will not. Each 30-minute class will include the following:

- Student Introduction and Class Expectations
- Introduction/ Review of the Weekly Strategy
- Weekly Strategy Practice and Discussion
- Daring Division, a game to promote the use of each division strategy

- Week of February 14th:  Partial Quotient 
- Week of February 21st: U.S. Standard Algorithm
- Week of February 28th: U.S. Standard Algorithm
- Week of March 7th: Box Method Division
- Week of March 14th: Chunking
- Week of March 21st: Distributive Property of Division

In our class, students are encouraged to ask questions, and they are allowed to make mistakes. In this fun and engaging environment, each students’ effort will be cheered on because, quite frankly, they deserve to know what extraordinary learners they are! I hope to see you soon!
