In this lesson, the young learners will learn the 5 layers of a tree trunk. We will use real pieces of trees to identify and label each layer. This is an introduction of forestry to younger children. We will start the class off by introducing ourselves by name and where we live. By using diagrams of the tree trunk, real pieces of wood, and an end of class drawing activity, each learner will be encouraged to recite the 5 layers of a tree trunk. I encourage each learner to bring something to color with such as: colored pencils, markers, or crayons. They may also bring a dry erase board if they would like instead of coloring on paper. If the learner is able to find a piece of wood before class, we can use it as show and tell to discuss and describe what we see.
