Students will be given a general introduction to the entirety of Pseudosuchia (the crocodile line group of reptiles)
The topics covered will be as follows:
1. What counts as a pseudosuchian?
2. The Triassic golden age
A. Poposaurids.
B. Rauisuchians
C. Aetosaurians
3. The Jurassic revisions.
A. Metriorhynchids-Forays into the Ocean
B. Sticking around in an age of Dinosaurs
4. The Cretaceous river monsters
A. The rise of Alligators and True river crocs
B. Return to herbivory
5. Paleocene-Eocene attempts to retake the world
6. Oligocene-Miocene retreats into the southern hemisphere
7. Pliocene-Today-Last of the land crocs, and water specializations
The class will mainly be structured along the general evolution of the crocodile-line archosaurs.
I will teach using a mixture of slides, discussion, documentary clips and even using models for reference.
My teaching style can be best described as an interactive one. I try to ask the students questions if they feel comfortable so that they can try coming to their own conclusions.
Learners will get to interact with me through lectures, video clips and discussion.
No required experience or knowledge is needed.學習目標
Students will learn about the surprising variety and diversity of Crocodile lifeforms, and how they once ruled both the land, rivers and came close to dominating the oceans. Students will learn about how the dinosaurs copied the early crocodiles and that some ancient crocodiles had hooves and that some were plant eaters.
