Students will be given a general introduction to the entirety of Pseudosuchia (the crocodile line group of reptiles)
The topics covered will be as follows:
1. What counts as a pseudosuchian?
2. The Triassic golden age
A. Poposaurids.
B. Rauisuchians
C. Aetosaurians
3. The Jurassic revisions.
A. Metriorhynchids-Forays into the Ocean
B. Sticking around in an age of Dinosaurs
4. The Cretaceous river monsters
A. The rise of Alligators and True river crocs
B....Students will learn about the surprising variety and diversity of Crocodile lifeforms, and how they once ruled both the land, rivers and came close to dominating the oceans. Students will learn about how the dinosaurs copied the early crocodiles and that some ancient crocodiles had hooves and that some were plant eaters.
I studied paleontology at the University of Alberta and have been on several fossil digs. I work as an educator at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural histories and help manage the fossil collections.
