In this 4-day intensive creative writing camp, YOU are in the driver's seat. I am a published author and seasoned creative writing veteran. I CAN'T WAIT for you to join me in this learning experience that will help you get to where you want to go in your creative writing projects... without too many detours. Whether your goal is to create fiction, poetry, graphic novels, or even dabble in memoir, you will discover tips and tricks that just might make your writing really come to life. Class 1: In our first class, we will start at the beginning and discover YOU as a writer. Our first goal is to establish comfort, boundaries, and your own writing style and speaking voice. We will explore how language functions in different contexts, and how to make effective choices for meaning and style. You will also have the opportunity to map out a clear and tangible project in the theme, genre, and mood of your choice. Class 2: In our second class, we will discuss characterization and how to develop great characters. As the foundation of our stories, this human element will resonate with readers. You will be able to shape and create "round" characters that have strengths, flaws, and might even make a mistake or two along the way. Whether or not your characters are based off of real life people (such as yourself!) or thought up out of thin air, as writers, our job is to make them as compelling as possible. Class 3: In our third class, we will map our story or poetic structures. A solid structure including all relevant story elements to your true voice is essential to ensuring a smooth writing process. This is arguably one of the biggest tasks of the writing process! Once our structure map is complete, we will write and write and write! Class 4: In our final class, we will learn about creating effective images in our writing. You will learn more about great adjectives and verbs and also understand how to avoid boring ones. We will also discuss metaphors, similes, and other devices that enrich our writing. By focusing on creating vivid images, we can make a dull sentence into a great one. During this exercise, we will inevitably focus on the editing process. Because our creative juices have been flowing all week, you will now have the opportunity to edit your texts. You will organize your words into clear and coherent final products that are appropriate to task, purpose, and also resonate with your audience. And I'll help you every step along the way!

I have 19 years experience working with teens with academics and creativity, whether it may be with sharpening writing skills, honing in on proper grammar, and even discovering one's true writer's voice. Literature studies are the backbone of any society and bridge the gap between distant and not so distant timelines, ethnicities, cultures, and moral values that propel humanity forward.
