Camp Creative Writing Welcome to Camp Creative Writing 2023! We will meet Monday through Thursday for fun writing experiences that spark creativity and create opportunities for learners to sharpen their writing skills. Each day we will focus on a different aspect of narrative writing, including characterization, literary devices, and plot structure. By the end of class on Thursday, your learner will have new creative writing techniques and several wacky and fun stories they will be proud to share with friends and family. Monday: How do writers bring a setting to life? Tuesday: How do writers create characters we love? Wednesday: How and why do authors use literary devices? Thursday: How and why do authors use different types of conflicts? While this camp aims to help learners enhance their creative writing skills, ultimately, it is to foster a love of creative expression through writing. Classroom Policies: Students are required to have working cameras, and microphones in class positioned such that we can both see and hear them clearly for the entirety of the class. Collaboration makes the class more engaging and fun for everyone. Classes with fewer than the minimum number of students required may be canceled. After ten minutes, if no students have arrived in the virtual classroom, I will exit the classroom. In some cases, rescheduling is possible. Refunds are generally not offered for missed classes. All students are entitled to a friendly classroom environment and a positive experience. Hello! My name is Melanie, and while I have public school and homeschool experience, I have been a private school teacher for twenty-five years. I am the author of a published picture book called Will's Ride. It is a lovely picture book about a boy and his adaptive bike, which I wrote for my son with cerebral palsy.
The combination of an experienced private school teacher and the mom of a special needs child makes me a unique teacher. I can recognize when students need a challenge and when they need consistent repetition for new knowledge to move into long-term memory. I enjoy hosting a Facebook page for teachers called Teaching Matters and a Youtube channel called The Teacher's Playbook.
