課堂經歷

Join this fun and interesting class to build conversational skills on various topics!

In this weekly class, we will have a pre-selected topic to discuss between the teacher and other learners. Ever wanted to discuss your favorite hobby? Thought about what your favorite memory is? Maybe you have wanted to have a conversation about deeper topics like how you can make a difference to humanity. This is the class for you where we will explore all of these topics and more.

Since this is a discussion-based class, there will be no slides or lecture. I will initiate the weekly conversation prompt and give a few examples and allow the learners to join in with their ideas. Moderation will be provided by me to ensure that learners stay on topic for the week and that all content is appropriate per Outschool policy.

Weekly conversation starters are as follows:

Week of Sept 9: What do you want to be when you are older?
Week of Sept 16: If you could be anything in nature for a day, what would it be and why?
Week of Sept 23: What is your favorite memory so far?
Week of Sept 30: What is your favorite word and why?
Week of Oct 7: If you could switch roles with your parents would you? And, what would that day be like?

Week of Oct 21: What was the last thing that made you smile?
Week of Oct 28: What makes a best friend in your eyes?
Week of Nov 4: What kind of school subject would you make up if you could?
Week of Nov 11: When was the last time you said "thank you?"
Week of Nov 18: What are you most grateful for in your life?
Week of Nov 25: If someone is sad, how do you make them feel better?
Week of Dec 2: What do you like the most about yourself?
Week of Dec 9: If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
Week of Dec 16: What is something you wish you could do everyday?
Week of Dec 23: What is the nicest thing you ever did for someone?
Week of Dec 30: What is something you want to improve about yourself?

Week of Jan 13: What are some things on your bucket list?

Week of Feb 24: What are three fun facts about yourself?
Week of Mar 3: Would you like to be invisible for the day? What would you do if you were?

Week of Mar 17: What food could you eat everyday for the rest of your life?
Week of Mar 24: If you could have picked your own name, what would it be?
Week of Mar 31: If you could time travel, what time period would you travel to?
Week of Apr 7: What is your earliest memory?

Week of May 19: If you had to give your favorite thing to someone less fortunate, would you do it and what would it be?
Week of May 26: What is a character trait you want to work on this year?

Although it is not necessary, it is perfectly fine to bring a notebook or journal into class to write down some of the thoughts that come to mind. This would be a nice keepsake from this class to look back on 10 years down the road.

While holding a conversation is an important life skill, it is also a great way to develop critical thinking skills, patience, understanding of others' thoughts, and to really dig into a topic that may be of more interest. Both native speakers and non-native speakers are welcome. Please let me know if your learner is an English as a second language learner.

Topics will be added as the class progresses. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I hope to see your learner in class!

NEW CLASSES COMING SOON!!!

New classes starting in September 2024...

Hello and welcome! My name is Judy and I am excited to meet you and share my love of learning with your children.

My educational background includes a B.S. in Geology with a concentration in Engineering-so extra heavy on the sciences and upper level math. I've worked in both the public and private sectors and as a field geologist and project manager and I currently have my own business. Some of my work includes regulatory compliance of Underground Storage Tanks, Environmental Site Assessments and reports, groundwater monitoring, Stormwater Pollution and Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Plans for aboveground tanks, and monitoring contaminants in soil. Of course, that is not an exhaustive list but it is a good representation of the broad field work I have done in my career.

I have conducted field research as a Geologist and have presented my findings at several Geological Society of America conferences. Further, I am a member of several professional organizations to continue my own education in this field.

ESL is also a passion of mine. I enjoy teaching English to others and helping them to succeed at their goals. It has really allowed me to meet a lot of fun and interesting people around the world. I am TEFOL certified and have taught ESL learners of all ages for the last 6 years.

I am a homeschooling mom of two and we are beginning our 4th year. I am really passionate about making sure that my children (and yours) have all of the tools they need to succeed in life. My children were both born prematurely and we have had quite the educational journey from physical and occupational therapy to ADHD. I enjoy teaching children who think outside the box and love to explore their surroundings. Outschool is the perfect platform for that. I have had the very best students to work with here and you can rest assured that your child is learning the same material I would teach my own. It is important to me to show children their abilities and their positive attributes and build on that.

You'll find a variety of different classes here-mostly science- but I do teach some math, reading, and an occasional elective class, as well as ESL. I enjoy working with students of all ages and feel very comfortable in this environment. If you are a parent looking for a little bit of enrichment for your child to cement what they are learning in school or if you are a homeschool parent, I can help take the load off and I will do everything I can to make your child feel important and valued in my classes.

In our free time, my family enjoys all things outdoors such as horseback riding, hiking, rock and mineral collecting, or just playing in a big field. We love nature and all of its wonders.

If you have any questions about classes or scheduling please reach out to me. I am always willing to work with you on setting up a class that works for you.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see your child in some of my classes!
