Do you love to build and create your own worlds? Do you like using arts & crafts supplies to dream up houses for fairies or tiny people? Then come join us at the Creation Station! In this weekly on-going and social class, learners will use the power of play and exploration to engineer and craft their own tiny worlds. Learners will use household materials and craft supplies to build houses, cars, buses, playgrounds and more! By working with a variety of household materials learners will develop problem-solving and flexible thinking skills. Each week we will: ⦾ Read a story for inspiration ⦾ Discuss as a group important elements to include in our projects ⦾ Build using household materials ⦾ Share our creations Each week we will address one aspect of our tiny worlds: ⇒ Week of April 11: Houses ⇒ Week of April 18: Furniture ⇒ Week of April 25: Playgrounds ⇒ Week of May 2: Vehicles ⇒ Week of May 9: People ⇒ Week of May 16: Animals ⇒ Week of May 23: Gardens and Trees ⇒ Week of May 30: Boats ⇒ Week of June 6: Amusement Park ⇒ Week of June 13: Imaginary Animals ⇒ Week of June 20: BREAK - No Class ⇒ Week of June 27: Robots ⇒ Week of July 4: Circus I can't wait to create with you!

There is nothing specific you need, but a variety of materials are helpful when building. Look around the house and raid old art supplies, the recycling bin, and old toys for interesting parts. No need to buy anything! Here are some examples of items to create your creation station: •Masking Tape or scotch tape •Glue (white or hot glue) •Scissors •Clean recyclables (yogurt containers, oatmeal boxes, cereal boxes, coffee cans, plastic lids, berry baskets, egg cartons, paper towel tubes, etc.) •Cardboard boxes •Pom poms •Pipe cleaners •Straws •Old fabric swatches •Buttons •Popsicle sticks •Paper plates/cups •Aluminum foil

Hello wonderful Outschool families!
I'm Teacher Emily and I've been working in the classroom for over 10 years developing hands-on, engaging lessons and building connections with my students. I received my K-6 teaching credential (in all subjects) and Master's in Curriculum and Instruction in 2013. I have worked in public and private schools, and also a homeschool resource center.

At Outschool, you can expect to see a wide variety of classes from me that help nurture the whole child. I am passionate about teaching hands-on STEAM lessons, making math accessible to kids, building social and emotional skills, and providing a space for children to explore their interests.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the belief that to build self-confident, happy, and excited-to-learn children, we must first meet each child where they are and allow them to explore their own ideas about how to approach a problem or learn a new concept. Children are born excited to learn and it is our most vital role as adults and educators to nurture that.
I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband and two sons. You'll often find us exploring nature, being silly, having dance parties, and reveling in the joy of learning.評論
