Embark on a creative journey in this live group course where students will delve into the art of map-making using Inkarnate, an intuitive online tool that allows their imaginative landscapes to come to life! What Will Be Taught? In this engaging course, students will learn the fundamentals of Inkarnate and how to create their own unique maps. Using step-by-step activities, they will explore key features such as layering, using stamps for different terrains, and labeling their creations. By the end of the course, each student will design a captivating map that reflects their imagination. Topics Covered: - Sign-up to Inkarnate and take a brief tour - Drawing your land - Creating rivers and lakes - Using stamps - Painting textures - Titles and layers - Final challenge - Create a map for a fantasy world described in a text document Class Structure: The course will be delivered using Zoom and Nearpod, allowing for interactive and supportive learning. My teaching approach fosters creativity and supports students in expressing their ideas within a calm and welcoming environment. Throughout the course, students will participate in live Zoom sessions, engage in hands-on activities, and have opportunities to discuss and reflect on their work with peers and me. This method ensures that your child not only acquires valuable map-making skills but also builds confidence in their creative and communicative abilities.

- Learn to draw rivers and lakes in Inkarnate.
- Discuss rivers and lakes in fantasy novel maps.

- Utilize core stamps in Inkarnate (free version).

In this class, we will use Inkarnate, an online map-making tool that allows students to create and tell stories. This tool features fantasy themes, such as mythical creatures and magical landscapes, but contains no explicit content. Inkarnate is intended for users aged 13 and older, and when students create a free account, they will be asked to confirm their age. If they are under 13, parental consent will be required for them to use the platform. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

As long as the student feels comfortable navigating a website and using a mouse/trackpad, they'll be able to quickly grasp the basics of Inkarnate.

Device: A laptop, tablet, or desktop computer with internet access. Students will need to have three tabs open: the Zoom call, the Nearpod lesson, and Inkarnate. If possible, I recommend using a separate device for the Zoom call to ensure smoother navigation. Inkarnate Account: A free account on Inkarnate (please set this up before the session). Drawing Supplies (Optional): Pencil and paper for sketching ideas or planning before using Inkarnate. Notepad: For taking notes and jotting down ideas or feedback.
