每週 1 小時. Students will receive chess puzzle homework sheets in a PDF format to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand what to do.評估

The students will learn about this most interesting pawn capture, called "En Passant." This is a French word which means, "In Passing." The students will learn that the pawns are the only pieces that can make the En Passant move and can only capture pawns. They will learn that only after a pawn makes an initial move of 2 spaces, can an En Passant capture be made. They will learn that only on that next move, the opponent's pawn has to make that En Passant move. If the opponent moves a different piece, they cannot make the En Passant capture later.

All chess students need to learn this basic En Passant rule because if they ever play chess against a computer or a more experienced player, they need to understand why their pawn is being captured by their opponent in this most unusual way.

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.

Students should have a pencil in class and the chess puzzles printed out, which will be attached in a PDF form in the Classroom.

I have taught children and adults in Beginning and Intermediate 1 Chess classes for 23 years in after school programs, summer Chess Camps, online in my Cool Chess classes and now for Central New York Chess. I love to see how Chess helps the brain to think, to make predictions, to sequence, see patterns, etc. I love to see when a student learns how to checkmate and improves upon their game!
