Class Description

🌟 Get Ready for Fun & Challenging Math! 🌟

This class introduces competition-style problems and puzzles from Math Kangaroo (Levels 3-4) and other math contests. Through group discussions, problem-solving activities, and interactive learning, students will develop confidence, logical reasoning, and a deeper understanding of math concepts.

This is an advanced class for students who enjoy math challenges. Recommended for homeschoolers or as an after-school supplement.

This is a working session where students actively solve problems and discuss their solutions.

What We Cover

Week 1: Number sequences, visualization problems, order of operations
Week 2: Unknown values, word problems, factors, multiples, area
Week 3: Guess and check combinations, multiples, number sense problems, and number line questions
Week 4: Patterns, reversing patterns, age problems

Who Is This Class For?

This class is best suited for advanced students in grades 3-4 who:

✅ Enjoy solving tricky math problems and logic puzzles.
✅ Have strong reading comprehension skills to interpret word problems.
✅ Are preparing for Math Kangaroo, Math Olympiad, or other math contests.
✅ Are excited to participate in math discussions and share their ideas.

Class Experience

Students will typically solve 7-10 competition-style math problems in each class using a collaborative, discussion-based approach.

🔹 Try It First! – Students attempt problems independently before we discuss solutions.
🔹 Guided Discussion – The teacher breaks down solutions step by step and encourages students to share their strategies.
🔹 Group Learning – Students collaborate with classmates and explain their thinking.
This is not a lecture-style class. Students actively participate, solve problems, and learn from their peers.

Shy students may listen and participate via chat, while outgoing students can share their problem-solving strategies aloud.

If a student is stuck, the teacher will walk through problems step by step, ensuring they understand the approach.

Pre-Requisites and Placement Test

Students should be comfortable with addition and subtraction (into the thousands) , multiplication (up to two digits by two digits), and division (up to 3 digits by 1 digit) and be excited to try challenging puzzles.

3️⃣ Lai uses all the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 to make a four-digit number. The number is even. The tens digit is greater than the hundreds digit. The thousand digit is twice the ones digit. What is the number?

4️⃣ There are goats, sheep, and chickens in the yard. If they have 70 legs in total and there are the same number of goats, sheep, and chickens, how many of each animal are there?
