Combat, or fictional fighting, is a big part of the Dungeons and Dragons game. Unfortunately, the game and the system has a few complicated rules that can be overwhelming for any new player to the game. I aim to teach the key terms and phrases related to the rules of the combat part of the game first before having students use either the characters they made in my other D&D class, Building Your Own Dungeons and Dragons Character, or provide them with a character to use in a practice combat...
Students will learn and understand more of how the combat part of a Dungeons and Dragons game works. Students will also be able to apply the rules and knowledge learned through a practice combat scenario used as a teaching moment. Students through this practical application of knowledge of the game, will also be able to build better problem-solving skills, on-the-spot decision making skills, as well as having a clearer understanding of the information given in the class through actual use of the information.
A detailed powerpoint and the pdf of The Players Handbook will be provided for reference in the class. Students will also have access to created characters for the practiced combat part of the class in the classroom.

There is a sense of violence in this game as students will be using characters to cause harm to fictional enemies, but there will be no direct visuals or exposure to actual violence at all during the class.
Rules and information will be based from The Players' Handbook that has been published by Wizards of the Coast for everyone and anyone to use to get involved with Dungeons and Dragons. This book is not required in the class as screenshots will be shared in a PowerPoint as well as a pdf being provided of the book in the classroom.
