In this ongoing class, learners will practice identifying objects that are traditionally the color of the week.  They will learn how to spell the color of the week through a song.  Learners will also make an easy reader for each color; the books use simple language, like "Cardinals are red."  The easy reader books are shaped like a crayon with two crayon pages on each sheet of paper but you could also just cut each page in half if you prefer.  There is a crayon page that has the lyrics to the color song included.  The PDF with the book has two worksheets for learners to practice writing, spelling, cutting, identifying, and coloring the color of the week after class; please note these are not required but I believe that they enhance learning about the color of the week.

In each class we will begin by discussing objects that are traditionally the color of the week, for example, ladybugs are red.  Next, learners will have the opportunity to show and tell about an item from their home that is the color of the week; an example of an object for the color red might be a Clifford stuffed animal, a red apple, or a red ball cap.  Then we will learn a song about the color of the week which will help learners spell the color of the week.  I have used these songs when I taught preschool, Kindergarten, and my daughters how to spell the color words.   Lastly I will show learners how to assemble the book.  If we have time I will read the book to the class, and show learners how to write the color word of the week.

Week 4 - green
Week 5 - orange
Week 6 - purple
Week 7 - pink
Week 8 - black
Week 9 - brown
Week 10 - white
Week 11 - gray

I am a certified teacher with a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education (Birth to 3rd grade). I was formally trained by Handwriting Without Tears, as well as Zoo Phonics. I have taught numerous children of all backgrounds in person and online using both Handwriting Without Tears and Zoo Phonics. I have taught Preschool through Kindergarten for 5 years, plus 2 years in older grades, as well as my stepdaughters and my daughter using the Handwriting Without Tears method.  I homeschooled my 3 girls for 3 years, and have taught online with Outschool and other platforms for over 6 years.
