Class Overview: Join your peers and a qualified academic mentor on the exciting (and perhaps daunting) journey through the college application process! *TLDR: Your student will learn about the types of colleges and university programs available to them, narrow down a list of potential schools, consider all of the attributes of those schools including cost, distance, size, values, etc. and be guided through the preparation of ALL application materials: emails to request letters of recommendation, the personal statement, supplemental essays, scholarship essays, etc. They will also learn time-management skills and gain a sense of confidence in their ability to make well-educated high-stakes decisions.* Throughout this 7-week course, the student will be guided through the process of identifying a list of colleges and universities that are the best fit for them and will develop application materials that allow them to stand out as applicants. There is so much information out there on American colleges and Universities, and it is extremely difficult to sort through what is truth, what is relevant, and what should be a non-negotiable. Navigating the process alone is nearly impossible. In this course, the student won’t simply read a list of colleges and pick out those that have their desired major – they will discover what truly matters to them in a potential school. In our tailored sessions, students will be able to ask questions, learn from each other, and build momentum as they approach their high school graduation. Our syllabus, outlined below, is designed specifically to ensure that students have every resource at their disposal and feel qualified to make this major life decision. There is also significant room for adjustment based on individual needs or concerns, as well as space for 1-on-1 sessions in addition to class meeting times. ***If the session times don't work for you, please reach out as I am flexible (especially for international students)** Also, don’t worry if you decide to join late – we will get you to the finish line before the Common Applications are due! For any questions or prep tips, reach out through the Ask a Question button. This process is as much about self-discovery as it is about college applications. Let’s make this challenging yet exciting journey a little bit smoother, together! (If you have any questions on the content or course syllabus, please reach out. I have a longer-form version of the syllabus that did not fit on this platform and am happy to share it or elaborate further on any of the courses!)
