STEM is a fast-growing field that keeps students actively engaged and computer science is just one small part of STEM they love. Computer science is essential for students to learn at an early age, as it helps in all subject areas. Writing code helps spark creativity and problem solving within your child. Minecraft is a fun and easy way to set the foundation for writing code. We will visit code.org and explore Blockly style coding. This is classified as a beginner/intermediate level because...
Students will learn Blockly style coding through code.org and create their own dance party video. We will first start with some basics of coding and finally move into sequences and looping. Students will code their characters, their characters’ dances and movements, and even their songs. Students will end with a really cool dance video created on their screen. *This is not a video that anyone else can see. Only the learner will have access to his/her video.

Students will work on the website code.org to create their dance party, which uses a wide variety a kid-friendly pop music. Code.org requires the student to state their age before starting to code. Parental guidance may be needed.
