*****Please check out an app called Library Pass, available on both Google Play and Apple Apps. This app provides access to almost all the books listed below, with no wait time for any titles. You can read them conveniently on a tablet. Please use this app with your student(s), as the app has all age ranges for different graphic novels. I'm thrilled to see your interest in this class! As a fellow book lover, I understand that classic literature can sometimes feel daunting. That's why I've designed this class – to make these timeless stories more enjoyable and accessible by using graphic novels. I hope this unique approach will inspire you to delve into classic literature with confidence and excitement. Graphic novels are like comic books that tell the stories of classic books. They provide a quicker, more engaging way to get into these stories, helping you familiarize yourself with the characters and plots before reading the complete classic novels later. Remember, graphic novels in this class serve as a stepping stone to the original books. They don't replace the originals but provide a visual and narrative guide, making it easier to understand when you read the full versions. In our class, we'll slow down and discuss the stories in detail. We'll explore themes, new vocabulary, settings, plots, and more. This will enhance your understanding of the original books. The illustrations in the graphic novels will help you remember the story and its key elements. I've included the ISBN for each book we'll read, making it easier for you to find the exact book you need. You can order these books online, visit your local bookstore, or borrow them from your library. If you have any trouble finding a book, don't hesitate to let me know, and I'll assist you in getting it. Your classic reading journey should be as smooth as possible. To get the most out of our class, I encourage you to read the assigned books before we meet each week. This way, you'll be fully prepared to join in our discussions and understand the material better. Your preparation will not only enhance your learning experience but also boost your confidence in the class. ---- Title with an asterisk are not on Library Pass ---- Week of September 2: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. 學習目標
In this class, our primary goal is to foster a deep appreciation for classic literature among 8-12-year-old students by exploring these timeless stories through graphic novels.
Students will use visual literacy to analyze how graphic novels depict characters, settings, and plots. Students will develop critical thinking and reading comprehension skills by engaging with complex, visually stimulating texts.
其他詳情
父母的引導和規範
Some classic literature contains themes, scenes, or language that may be upsetting or scary to some learners. For example, stories with elements of violence, death, or intense emotional situations may be challenging for sensitive readers. Some graphic novel adaptations may depict these themes more vividly through illustrations. It's important for parents to be aware of potential triggers. I will list any triggers for the books we will be reading in the class listing. My classrooms are a safe and supportive environment for all learners.
供應清單
Students will need to have a physical or digital copy of the books to participate in the class discussions. Most of these books should be attainable through your local library or an app called Library Pass. Check to see if your library is available on this app. Please plan ahead when joining this club. We do not read the books in class. If you have trouble finding any of these books, please contact me, and I can see if I can find a different way for you to get them.
