Private: 1:1 Chess Tutoring Sessions This class is for students in grades K-6 who are new to the game or have a basic understanding of it and want to improve their skills. Chess will enhance reading and math skills and improve critical thinking abilities. Chess provides long-term skills for children to think and plan strategically. Children will learn essential chess play, structure, and function of the pieces. I have fine-tuned my chess teaching method to construct an easy way for kids to learn how to play the game. Lessons will include: 1. Critical thinking skills 2. Beginning, middle, and end game 3. Piece development. 4. Rules and information about playing chess. 5. Basic chess formations Structure of the course: Parental input is suggested to create the best plan possible. Week One: Review of chess basics, board setup up, and pawn game Week Two: Beginning, middle, and end game Week Three: Strategies in play or I can build a weekly course plan based on your child's chess level.

This is my 27th year as an elementary teacher and course instructor. In addition, I teach various elective and chess courses for children at a local university. Over the years, I presented at several conferences and local seminars. I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Master's of Library Science degree. In 2011, I obtained a principal certification.

25 years coaching chess.
Studied under a master chess player.
I have taught over 10,000 students and 600 teachers chess basics via online and face-to-face classes. I will bring my knowledge and love of the game to each class. Your child will become a better chess player by Week 3.
