They will create, research, and use the tools introduced in class so they gain experience and confidence with all the 21 Century skills needed to succeed in college and in the workplace. Career readiness, life literacies and key skills education provides students with the necessary skills to make informed career, college, and financial decisions, engage as responsible community members in a digital society, and to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities in our increasing complex world. The course will include the following learning goals:
-How to use self-assessment activities to identify individual strengths, interests, values, and skills
-How to use online resources to research potential careers, internships, colleges, academic programs, etc.
-Create SMART goals and identify next steps to achieve them
-Understand basic concepts of financial literacy including saving, investing, staying out of debt and making financially responsible choices
-How to utilize social media platforms in a safe and professional manner to help market strengths and distinguish yourself from other applicants
-Create a professional resume and LinkedIn profile to highlight interests, skills, and accomplishments
-How to conduct themselves in alignment with professional etiquette
Students will have fun while they improve their 21st Century Skills. Motivation and engagement will be maximized since the course includes using topical case studies and video clips from industry experts in Hiring, Admissions, and Financial Literacy. Discussions, opinion sharing, and role playing will be used so students can learn from each other and improve their collaboration and communication skills.
