Week 1 (lesson 13)
Lesson 13 continues where lesson 12 (in Part 3 of the series) left off. This week, students will add to their repertoire of sentence openers with a participial opening. They will also study the concept of hyperbole, which comes in handy with the writing assignment of creating an invective!

課 2:
Week 2 (lesson 14)
In lesson 13, students wrote an invective about something they despise... this week, students will have to write an encomium (speech of praise) about the same exact thing! The new device this week is a simile. Students are now up to 14 requirements in their assignments.

課 3:
Week 3 (lesson 15)
While there aren't any new requirements this week, students will still get a lot of practice building stronger sentences and practicing their different openers. The focus of the assignment is to freeze a moment in time in writing, which requires students to rely on sensory details... all while using their vast checklist of grammatical and literary devices.

課 4:
Week 4 (lesson 16)
In this final lesson, we do not add any requirements... but we take something away! Specifically, students can no longer use the words get/got/gotten/has/had/have. The final project melds expository and creative writing into one fun and challenging assignment.

學士學位 由 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
My passion -- as well as my professional background -- is writing. Professionally, I hold a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I've been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. I've also taught writing and literature classes to students of all ages and abilities.
On a personal note, I have homeschooled all five of my children and taught them all to read and write... and with each it has been a different experience! What's easy for one child is not easy for another. When I teach online, I always remember that it's important to keep learning fun and to incorporate different methods of teaching to reach all my students.
