課堂經歷

Many children struggle with regulating their emotions and can easily become frustrated, agitated, or upset. Learning to self-regulate emotions is an important life skill, but children often require guidance to learn how to do this effectively. This interactive class allows children to learn various calming strategies while also creating four separate tools to develop a kit that can be used to cope with highly charged emotions. 

Each session will include an open-ended discussion about the emotions we feel and what causes those emotions. The teacher will guide learners to share calming strategies that they already use, and introduce alternative strategies as needed. Learners will spend a majority of the class time creating a calming tool for their kit (see below for specific activities). Towards the end of the class, the teacher will provide a brief demonstration on how to appropriately use the tool.

Session 2: Create an Emotions Journal

Session 3: Build a Calming Sensory Bottle

Session 4: Design a Poster 


**Bonus: Learners will also receive a free set of calming strategy cards to include in their kits at the end of the course!**

Since we will be focusing on emotions (which can be a sensitive topic for some) please note the following: At the beginning of each class, we will go over our group norms which will include demonstrating respect for others and being supportive of peers. This group is designed to be a positive and safe space for students to be able to share freely and without judgment. Any disrespectful or unkind behavior will be reported to parents/guardians and may result in the student being disenrolled from the class. While I have a lot of experience with social and emotional learning, I am not a trained medical professional and therefore cannot provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult with a licensed medical or mental health professional with any questions or concerns you may have.

Session 1 (Stress ball): Deflated balloon(s), sand or flour, measuring cup, funnel, spoon

Session 2 (Emotions journal): Notebook, paper, coloring materials, scissors, glue, favorite photos, and/or stickers

Session 3 (Calming bottle): Plastic water bottle, mason jar, or travel size shampoo bottle; water; food coloring; glitter 

Session 4 (Poster): Paper, coloring materials
