Class will be structured to cover major content areas of 5th grade math: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals, whole numbers, and fractions Students will be taught problem-solving strategies using both numbers and pictures to solve word problems. Session 1-2: Multiplying multi-digit numbers using standard algorithm and place-value based strategies Session 3-4: Dividing 4-digit dividends by 2-digit divisors using place-value based strategies and standard algorithm Session...
Students will gain an understanding of how to analyze word problems to determine which operations to use; they will learn multiple strategies to use to solve problems; they will learn how to accurately solve problems using pictures as well as numbers; students will gain knowledge to increase their skill level to be proficient at 5th grade math and ready for 6th grade 1st quarter.
Teacher has 15 years classroom teaching experience with 10 years of 5th grade content. Experience writing curriculum for 5th grade math. 10 years tutoring ages 5-15 in math.
