週二書籍學習與建造 FLEX：魔法樹屋和 Minecraft 混搭龍捲風

***THERE ARE NO LIVE MEETINGS FOR THIS CLASS.***

In this 4 week FLEX course, students will travel back in time to the 1870s in a magic tree house with siblings, Jack and Annie from Frogcreek, Pennsylvania.  In this class, we will be reading Mary Pope Osbourne's Twister on Tuesday.  This class will be a mix of reading, answering comprehension questions and completing a Minecraft-build related to what they are reading in the story.  

Each week, students will read a few chapters from Twister on Tuesday (see reading schedule below).  Weekly, students will download a worksheet to complete, answering comprehension questions about what they have read, along with literary elements. Students will also be given an assignment in the form of a story-related Minecraft build to extend their comprehension. (Pretend Jack, Annie and the magic tree house are in Minecraft.  Then, build it!)  This weekly Minecraft challenge will be different each week and the assignment will be related to the assigned chapters.  Students will go "in game" in Minecraft to re-create a scene from the story. (Miss Lisa will *NOT* be providing a server to build on, rather students can use their own devices to create a story-related build in their own Minecraft worlds).  To complete the assignment, students will then submit and share screenshots of their weekly Minecraft-builds in the Outschool classroom for student discussion (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/screenshotting-guide). If you prefer, students can also share short video tours of their Minecraft builds.  Miss Lisa will also provide images of different Minecraft builds as inspiration for the weekly build assignments.  

The class will be structured as follows:

Week #1:  Read chapters 1-2, complete comprehension questions and complete & post an image/video of Minecraft build in classroom
Week #2:  Read chapters 3-5, complete comprehension questions and complete & post an image/video of Minecraft build 
Week #3:  Read chapters 6-7, complete comprehension questions and complete & post an image/video of Minecraft build
Week #4:  Read chapters 8-10, complete comprehension questions and complete & post an image/video of Minecraft build

This FLEX course will be highly interactive as students will discuss what they are reading in the classroom each week, along with completing weekly Minecraft-build challenges.  Weekly, a new Minecraft challenge will be posted to the classroom for students to submit images/videos of their Minecraft builds.  Students will also discuss their Minecraft builds, sharing and commenting on each others' builds and the resources used to complete their build.
