Join Mary Poppins, Ms. Carol, and friends in this once weekly, 4 week book club as we read and discuss this delightful, enchanting classical story of make believe and magic! From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed. It all starts when Mary Poppins is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins. Who else but Mary Poppins can...
Students will gain skills in the following areas: - public speaking - taking turns speaking - practicing active listening - sharing thoughts and insights - building vocabulary - exploring the characters, settings, and plot
Ms. Carol has been a voracious reader since childhood. Her lifelong passion is to cultivate curiosity in children, and to inspire a lifelong love of learning, especially the reading and enjoyment of beautiful literature! Ms. Carol has a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read.

Students will need a copy of the book Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers. The assigned chapters must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
