課堂經歷
Students taking this class should NOT have read the story or watched the movie previous to taking the class. After signing up for the class, please have the student read the first 28 chapters (They are very short) or Part One of the book. We will discuss it on the first class day. Questions will guide discussion of the reading for the week. We will identify pieces of the story and put them on puzzle pieces that will be attached to their counterparts to show the story in full circle. For example, The shoes that dropped on Stanley's head were the same shoes that Zero dropped because he was being chased by the police. Shoes were important because Stanley's father was inventing a way to eliminate the odor in shoes. Many different puzzle pieces fit together in a similar way in this story. All of these connections will be discussed. Class One - Learners should have read Part One of the book "Holes" by Louis Sachar. We will discuss their feelings about the book, things they enjoyed the most, things they related to the most, etc. We will discuss any pieces that they see fitting together at this point in the story and speculate on different things that could have connections. Class Two - Learners should have read Part Two of the book "Holes" by Louis Sachar. We will discuss the resolution of the problems in the book, the puzzle pieces that fit together to make the story complete, and their feelings about the book. Questions will drive disccusion about content will involve many different levels of questions on Bloom's Taxonomy. Class Three - Learners should have watched the movie "Holes" since the last class. We will discuss how the stories are the same and make a list of similarities. Class Four - We will discuss the movie and how the stories differ and make a list of differences. We will discuss the pieces of the story and how they fit together looking at the current story and the past story of Camp Green Lake and the Yelnats family. This will be done with visual puzzle pieces.
學習目標
Learners will be exposed to both the book and movie versions of a story. They will learn that although not every detail can be included in a movie from a book, that the major themes and pieces are still present. They will learn what the words "compare" and "contrast" mean and be able to do comparisons in the class and carry those forth for future books and movies that they might be interested in. They will find connections in the story. We will put together the parts of the story that bring it full circle from the beginning to the end of this delightful story. Learner will see families over generations of time and how the actions of one generation can affect many generations.

父母的引導和規範
The camp in the story is a boys camp. There are no girls at the campl except for the "warden" who owns the camp. One of themes of the story is that an Egyptian "Madam Zeroni" fortold of a curse on the family if the boy did not follow through with a promise. The story is about how that boy did not follow through but generations later, Stanley did keep the promise and break the curse.
