To introduce learners to Blackout Poetry, I begin this class with the history of this "found" form of poetry, dating back to the 18th Century and a neighbor of Benjamin Franklin's! During this historical overview, I encourage learners to respond to the story of the creation of Blackout Poetry and to share their impressions with the group. After presenting the history of Blackout Poetry, I demonstrate how it is constructed from existing texts. As a group, we analyze the pieces together to identify their imagery and themes. Learners are invited to participate in the analysis of the Blackout Poetry and to ask questions about their features. Once we've studied the history of Blackout Poetry and reviewed examples of this poetic form, we'll get our creative juices flowing by creating Blackout poems of our own. Our writing time will be in the form of a workshop with learners working both independently and in collaboration with fellow learners and me as needed. To close the class those learners who would like to are invited to share their creations with the group. I look forward to exploring this found form of poetry with you! *Please feel free to contact me if the cost of this class (or any of my classes) is a prohibitive factor to enrolling.

供應清單
In order to create Blackout Poetry, learners must come to class with two supplies: (1) A page of text. Each learner will need a short page of text that can be written on. Learners may use a section from a newspaper or a magazine or learners can print something out to use. I have found some good short stories on this site: https://www.storyberries.com/ that would work well for this poetry writing activity. (The goal is to find a text the learner can write on during class not necessarily a story the learner enjoys.) (2) A black marker or a black crayon. Each learner will need either a black marker or a black crayon.

Welcome to my classroom!
For 30 years I've helped students appreciate literature, develop their rhetorical and creative writing skills, and better organize and complete tasks. A central goal of my teaching & coaching is empowering students with strategies they can make use of on their own, and in each class I encourage students to participate fully in our sessions together by contributing to class discussions and asking questions.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Education, a Master's Degree in Literature, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. My current class offerings include literature studies, book clubs, creative writing and formal essay writing classes, and Executive Function coaching.
When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family and traveling! :)
