Week 1 - In this class we will discuss what a parasite is, and describe the differences between internal and external parasites. The teacher will share a list of some common canine parasites and learners will choose a parasite to research at home between classes. The teacher will then describe the project that learners will do at home after their research…. The “Most Wanted for Crimes Against Canines” poster / slide! This is where each learner will share some information about the parasite they researched and what these parasites do to the dog’s body. Week 2- On week 2 learners will share their posters/ slides with the class and teach us about what they now know about their “canine parasite criminal”. This class is best for learners with some background knowledge of canine veterinary care. This class can be taken over and over as each time the learner can pick a different parasite to research and share about and their classmates will be doing the same!

Parasites may be gross and make dogs sick. They do not usually cause death, but an animal may become ill. Class discussion will contain talk of pets becoming sick, so if your learner may become upset by this, I would recommend not enrolling.
A carefully chosen YouTube video link may be embedded in the classroom after the final class for additional learning on the types of parasites that the learners shared about in class.
Research on the parasite chosen will be done at home under parental supervision. I am not providing specific resources.

My name is Denise Champagne and I am the the founder of Future Vet & Animal Science Academy. I am a certified veterinary technician with 30+ years in practice. I have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine by.
I have been teaching at local colleges in veterinary assistant and equine studies programs for 13 + years. I have been teaching veterinary and equine science courses on Outschool since 2017.
I am passionate about providing all of my learners, with the same passion for animals, an inclusive environment for them to learn, grow and reach their goals!
