Welcome to Advanced Veterinary Science 1! In this self-paced, version of one our most popular advanced veterinary science courses. Students will receive recorded lessons and supplemental videos to explore a variety of topics that are related to small animal veterinary medicine. (Cats, dogs, etc). This version of Advanced Veterinary Science 1 is asynchronous, which means there are no live meetings! You do not have to log in at a specific day of the week, or time of day! This can be wonderful for learners outside of my time zone that have challenges with our available live class hours! This class is amazing, but probably not at midnight your time! LOL! Recorded lessons, additional carefully selected YouTube video links, and some question/answer prompts will be added to the virtual classroom on Outschool.com for the students to enjoy on your time and at their own pace! Why might this be the best option for your learner/family? Self-Paced classes may be a better option than a LIVE class because…. 1.) The recorded videos have the EXACT SAME content as the live version of class... PLUS learners receive multiple carefully selected, safely embedded YouTube video links based on that current lesson topic for additional learning. 2.) You do not have to worry about/deal with poor internet connection, other students' behavior, schedule conflicts, vacations, holidays, etc.! 3.) Your learner can watch the videos whenever you want to! Then, they can re-watch the videos whenever they want to, and pause, skip, back up, slow down, speed up, in a whatever way works best for them!! 4.) There is as much time as you need between classes so learners can digest the information and ask any questions in the online classroom before moving on to the next lesson! Learners should have either taken my Introduction to Veterinary Science class or have some basic knowledge of veterinary science. There are no grades given in this course. Projects, worksheets and any quizzes are recommended but not required. Topics and Required Supplies: Weeks 1 and 2 : Terminology Week 3: Safety and Restraint Week 4: Possible Emergency Situations/ Pet First Aid Kits Week 5: Toxicities Week 6-9: Canine and Feline Anatomy Weeks 10 and 11- Comprehensive Physical Exams and a Case Study Week 12: Review of the final 3 case studies will be done. Miss Denise’s Teaching Style: My teaching style is caring and relaxed. I am passionate about sharing veterinary science with learners of all abilities from all over the world! I am happy to provide additional support if needed. I am excited to help learners reach their goal to work with animals or to become a veterinary assistant, technician, or veterinarian! Miss Denise’s Qualifications: I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years; have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. I have taught at multiple local community colleges in Veterinary Assistant Programs, a local private university in Equine Studies, and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school in person. I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a paint horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens, and 4 cats! My mission is to share my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others! I am excited to help your learner reach their goals! Please message me if you have any questions. I sincerely look forward to working with your learner!
