課堂經歷

This class teaches students how to:
- navigate the structure of college classes
- understand the 'contract' and four year plan of completing one's major
- communicate professionally/appropriately with professors/advisors
- know how and when to ask for help
- understand the basics of student loans
- take on the responsibilities of being a successful student on their own (including note-taking/study skills/basic financial knowledge)
- take advantage of various experiences to make them as competitive as possible (i.e. internships, study abroad, extra curriculars, job preparation)
- Create a five-year and ten-year plan
I'm an Independent College Consultant. Mentoring students as they transition from high school into college is my passion, and I have done this for 9 years through two different mentoring programs, where I have built solid relationships with first generation/freshman college students. I also worked as a study abroad advisor (which means I've advised students of all majors and years in school with a special focus on academic planning with freshman) for more than 5 years, as well as guided high school and college foreign exchange students as they adapt to the high school and college systems in the USA. In addition, I have experience teaching general education English courses at a university. These experiences have made me extremely detail-oriented in my advising and teaching, helping me break down new and complex topics into small steps for new students.
提供的家庭作業
Meaningful homework in the form of online research or preparation for the next class is required for each class to allow for a more in-depth class discussion. Assignments will always be directly relevant to each future class. Prior to the first class, students will be given a college syllabus to read. This will be posted in the classroom prior to the first day of class. (Future assignments will be given in class, and assignments should never take longer than 30 minutes to complete, with most taking less than 15 minutes.)

提供的評估
There is no formal assessment. Individual feedback will be provided at the end of each class to support each student, sent through direct message on Outschool.
提供的成績
Students will need access to a laptop/computer with internet to do online research for homework.
學習者無需使用標準 Outschool 工具以外的任何應用程式或網站。
Students will be doing online research on their own for some homework assignments. Parents should be mindful of their student's use of the internet and the sites they visit. For class purposes, students will only be researching items related to college success. (As part of our discussion on credit cards, students are advised that they should speak with their parent(s) before applying for a credit card.)
