Tin Whistle Camp

Students will learn tin whistle using Walton’s Scottish Tin Whistle book.  This is a beginning class.  Students will learn a little about the background of the piece, how to finger it and basic techniques of tin whistle playing.  All pieces have fingering for each note in the song; most songs are in the key of G or D major.

Day 1 - Background on pieces:  Cockles and Mussels, Old MacDonald, Scarborough Fair; learning about keys used in tin whistle pieces;  students will learn how to play the pieces.

Day 2 - Background on pieces for class:  Auld Lang Syne; Annie Laurie; The Bluebells of Scotland; fingering for the pieces and specific rhythms used in the pieces; students will review day 1 pieces and learn day 2 pieces.

Day 3- Background on pieces for the class:  Loch Lomond, Coulter’s Candy; Lizzie Lindsay. Students will review pieces from day 1 and day 2 and learn day 3 pieces.

Day 4 - Background on pieces for the class:  The Skye Boat Song, Scots What Hae', Will Ye No Come Back Again.  Students will review from day 1, 2, 3 and learn day 4 pieces.

Day 5:  Students will review pieces from day 1, 2, 3 and 4.  Students may elect to participate in a mini recital to complete their learning of these pieces.    

One piece will be presented as piece of the day  The other two pieces are optional but can be learned if there is interest and students feel comfortable with the piece of the day.
