Has your child ever been interested in creating their own music? Have they heard of GarageBand but felt overwhelmed or didn’t know how to use the application? 

When I was a kid, I was really interested in music production but I didn’t have the right program or a teacher to help me. Anytime I tried to make an at-home recording, my songs never came out the way I wanted them to and I felt discouraged about my music. Well thankfully since then, Apple made GarageBand!

GarageBand is one of the most innovating and easy-to-use music production softwares of all time. These lessons break down the steps of how to use GarageBand into tiny, digestible, and age-appropriate bits so that they can learn to create their own music at home and understand the basics of music production. 


🚨 iPads or iPhones with GarageBand downloaded are ~ REQUIRED ~ for this course. Please download the app ahead of time to ensure that your student is prepared for class (Requires iOS 13.0 or later!!!). Please let us know if you have problems at least 24 hours before class starts- refunds will NOT be given to students who realize they cannot access the app on Day 1 of class🚨




W E E K L Y   C O N T E N T  

Students will...
  🎧  Watch a weekly pre-recorded video with a step-by-step breakdown of the GarageBand project for the week
  🎧  Complete their very own song using the guidelines for the week
  🎧  Share their song with Ms. G + receive positive feedback and comments from their instructor on each project 



C O U R S E   O U T L I N E :

🎵 WEEK 1: Creating their first-ever song using pre-recorded loops (concepts: guided exploration, important navigation buttons, rhythmic and melodic loops, trimming loops, copy/pasting loops, exporting files, how to share their piece with peers)

🎵 WEEK 2: Writing and recording a rap and creating accompaniment using loops (concepts: creating ABA form in a piece, transitional techniques between sections, writing a short rap, recording and editing an audio file, copy/pasting and audio file, adding effects, texture, and variety)

🎵 WEEK 3: Creating a song with our own custom drum beat (performing and recording a custom drum beat on the acoustic drum set, editing track using quantization, and using Smart Drums, Beat Sequencer, and Drummer to customize drum beats, while adding various loops to supplement drum recordings, editing tracks using quantization, adding extra loops for texture, adding sections, adding FX)

🎵 WEEK 4: Creating a song by playing and recording bass, guitar, strings, and piano within the app (four basic chords in music, using SmartBass to play and record chords, using SmartGuitar to play and record chords, using SmartPiano to play and record chords, using SmartStrings to play and record chords, recording a melody line using the strings, guitar, or piano with the pentatonic scale, editing tracks using automation and quantization, adding extra loops for texture, adding sections, adding FX)

🎤  When learning the app, students often get lost throughout instruction if they miss only one button- these videos will give them the ability to rewind and repeat any instructions or demonstrations they need
🎤  Students will have a safe and encouraging space to share their projects with their instructor and their peers
🎤  This can accommodate varying timezones and busy schedules
🎤  No live meetings; all interactions between the students and teacher are through the classroom page.
