課堂經歷

Boys are so unique that they have their own saying, “Boys will be boys.” In most cases, this is acceptable outside of school but at school, well that saying could become problematic. So many times boys get labeled with ADHD just because they are more hyper than most. The truth is…boys just need an alternative to releasing their energy.

In this club for boys, they will be free to express themselves in a healthy environment. Each time we gather together, the boys and I will take turns asking one another fun entertaining questions, but the goal is for the students to converse with one another and freely talk. Classes will be lighthearted in nature. The goal is for your child to leave our class feeling empowered and excited about his newly acquired friendships.

Some examples of topics that will be discussed from week to week:

Tell me about the best and worst parts of your day.
What’s your favorite game to play?
If you could be any animal what would you be and why?
What’s your favorite thing to do in the car?
If you could be anywhere right now where would you be? What would you be doing?
What’s your favorite cereal? Why?
What’s the silliest face that you can make?
What’s your favorite song? Why do you like it?
What was the best holiday you ever had?
Where do you like to go to the car?
If we were at the grocery store, what would you like to buy?
How many animal noises can you make?
Have you ever had an imaginary friend? Tell me about him.
How high can you count?
If you could make three wishes, what would they be?
Who do you love? Why?
What’s your favorite smell? What’s the yuckiest thing you’ve ever smelled?
What’s your favorite weather? Why do you like that weather?
When did you last say, “I do!”
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever built?

In some classes, we may also play simple, collaborative games to promote teambuilding. And, depending on the boys who are present, we may sometimes use breakout rooms in order to chat together in a whole new way. Since this is a socialization class, we may not meet unless at least two boys enroll.

This will be a safe place where students will feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, ideas, and feelings. To ensure this, my main role will be to include all group members and allow equal opportunities for them all to talk and ask questions. As the group facilitator, I will also try to gently encourage group members to share and support them if they feel nervous to do so.

學習目標

Students will socialize with peers and have a space to talk about feelings, experiences, and thoughts while building confidence and making new friendships.

As a school administrator in the public school system, I have worked with a very diverse group of students; especially boys. Boys were typically the ones sent to the office for a variety of reasons.
