In this class, you will learn common external parts of the horse. We will locate the parts of the body and learn easy ways to remember them. In this slide show type class learners will also learn the common terms and definitions for identifying a mare, gelding, foal, pony, and more. This class is for learners interested in horses and ponies and who would like to know the common terms used by professionals. Whether you have a horse or pony or wish you had one knowing the common terminology will help you feel comfortable and confident when speaking to other horse people. Please bring a model horse, stuffed animal horse, or a picture of a horse to use during class. (Unicorns are OK too). No prior knowledge of horses is needed. Everyone will have a chance to speak and participate in class. Great for learners in 4-H or Pony Club *****Parents please read the Parental Guidance Section before signing up for this class.*****

Please be aware that some students may have questions as it relates to how to tell the difference between males and females using sex anatomy. The word castration will be used as it is necessary to describe types of male horses. I will refer to correct terminology as it relates to horses in a serious professional manner. Please feel free to ask me questions about this prior to class.

Worksheets will be available to print and can be filled in during class as time allows. The answer keys are given so the worksheets can be finished and self- corrected after class. If you do not have a model horse, or a stuffed horse, please print the worksheet with the horse on it to use during class.
