This course will promote a love of literature in a positive, nurturing environment with other like-minded learners. Students will discuss character traits, major themes, favorite characters, setting, and book to real-life connections. Students will show understanding of book by summarizing text, drawing inferences, and comparing and contrasting setting, characters, events, etc.
I am an avid book reader and know there are others out there like me. I am a former classroom teacher and my favorite classes to teach are literature-based. The books on this list are just some of the titles I feel every child should read and reread. I have Master's in Education and I just love diving into a good book and dissecting it.
Students should have a read or listen to the book before we meet. A personal copy is recommended and parents can purchase books from Amazon, check out from the library, or download audiobooks. If a learner has only read part of the book before class starts, they are still welcome to participate.
Books are age-appropriate, however, they may contain content or discuss topics parents may deem inappropriate. Parents are highly encouraged to check out: https://commonsensemedia.org for guidance on each book.
