✈️Join us for an exciting ongoing class where aspiring aviators will learn all about airplanes and aviation There will be some hands on activities, lively discussions, and interesting scientific facts. ✈️
⭐⭐Each session can be taken individually and does not build upon prior sessions so that students with prior aviation knowledge can skip the more basic introductory sessions and join the classes they wish to learn more about.⭐⭐
The schedule will be as follows:
Day 1: ✈️ This will be an introduction to Aviation, it's history, and some basic information about different types of aircraft, aviation words, and the different sectors of aviation.
Day 2: ✈️ Students will dive deep into the anatomy of an airplane, identify some key controls in the cockpit, and discuss how pilots are able to control the aircraft.
Day 3:✈️ Students learn how airplanes fly, we will discuss aerodynamics and the 4 forces that affect flight. We will put this theory to the test by making our own paper airplanes and testing out the design features.
Day 4: ✈️ Will emphasize the effect that weather has on flying. Students will learn all about the different types of weather that pilots may encounter, how it affects the flight and what instruments help the pilot stay in the air despite the weather challenges.
Day 5: ✈️ We will get to play pilot by learning all about how pilots communicate with Air Traffic Control on the radio. They will learn the all about the process for communication in the sky, the NATO phonetic alphabet and practice using it to call ATC. There will also be an aviation "show and tell" where students can share about anything aviation related.
This class is aligned to Next Gen Science Standards and also helps to improve science content specific academic vocabulary.
🌟BONUS: 🌟 Students will receive digital resources such as our airplane labeling activity and some aerodynamics slides to refer
back to for furthering their aviation knowledge.
🌟PLEASE NOTE: Students will need to be able to read in order to complete all activities and participate fully.
